Whats the most I could do with a Cherry board around 60in long?
I havent had much luck with cherry but I know there are some who have. 60" would be pretty short for that type of wood unless you made it a little wider than normal and a bendy-handled bow. Theres a pic of a cherry board bow in TBB4 thats 58" and pulls 55#.
Do you have enough to splice up billets and make it longer. Goin' to need some backing regardless.........Art
I just seen it in my family's furniture shop it had straight grain and was a scrap piece so I thought maybe it could make something. I could back it with linen if need be but was hoping for something simple to just play with.
Keep it for overlays and handle sections. Its always nice to have several species laying around to mess with.
In a laminated bow, thin strips of it sure would be purdy under clear glass. I really like it in a riser, I did one with cherry and black walnut. I would post a pic but can't seem to remember how. Sorry.
This bow is a cherry 60 incher, made for a buddy of mine who has a 26" draw on good days. You can actually get a couple more inches out of your 60" board if, when you glue your recurve pieces on for your tips, you stagger the glued pieces out from your riser so that when you cut your recurved tip out, you still have wood to cut. I have done this successfully on a board bow.

Fish, That is a beauty! I really like the overlays and handle shape. NICE!
Wow Fish, I agree with briarjumper, that is a beauty! Great idea also on the board stretching.
Sure is one fine looking bow! CONGRATS!!
