Title: HBO BOW LENGTH?
Post by: PEARL DRUMS on February 07, 2011, 10:01:00 AM
I am getting ready to start my first HBO bow and was curious just how short I can go with a 29" draw length? I have built a few hickory bows at 66" NTN with 1 1/2 fade width, I know osage is different. I plan on gluing about 4" of relfex in. I am also planning on 1 1/2" wide at the fades. Thanks for the replies.

You can go down to 1 3/8" at the fades or even a little less. 64" to 66" should work as well. With 4" of reflex you should come out with 1" or so reflex after shot in.

I wouldn't go shorter than 60" with a rigid handle or 58" with a bendy handle for a 29" draw on your first one.

I generally let my target weight determine my width.  For under 60# I would go with 1-1/4" wide for 1/3 of the limb tapering to 1/2" tips.  For over 60# I'd go 1-1/2".

John it will have a rigid handle for certain. I think I will go right between yours and Pats suggestions. 62" ntn for this one. Thanks John
