So today I invited a couple of young men over to begin making their own bows. They were interested in getting started and it took me a couple of weeks to find 2 nice boards from the local warehouse. I found a couple and this is the work we were able to get done today. These guys were great sports and learned quick! We should be able to be shooting them with another Saturday session. Love to be able to teach a couple of young pups and see their eyes light up :)
We will see how well they do with a Flemish twist next weekend. Hahaha, that will serve for cheap entertainment!

That is great. Before you know it you will not have an empty space in the garage
Good stuff! :clapper:
That's awesome. I love to see the kids getting involved.
that is good stuff.
Your gonna have them boys hooked!
Stiks
Sure Goose, rub it in. It's cold as heck here in Pa and haven't seen the grass in 2 months and you guys are outside in shorts? That just isn't right:)
Looks like a great day..
Way to go Goose, get them hooked early.
How it was 75 degrees Saturday here in Arkansas I have no clue. I saw one of the young bowyers tonight and all he could ask was "how does my bow look???" He's been telling everyone about how he is building a bow. I know if he's hooked it might get scary with how much influence he has with his fellow peers. I might be looking for some more wood and a few more bow benches. Not sure what I got started... :knothead:
3' of snow on the ground and another 15-20 in on the way. It sue is nice to see a whole lot of passin' on! Good job, Goose. Jawge
I'm with roy from PA. We've actually got a heck of an ice storm and snow movin in the next couple days. Looks like me and dave will have to stock the bowshop with milk an eggs! Always fun to intro someone new into the world of bowmakin. Keep up the good work
Few years ago, 4 of us guys taught a group of 50 Boy Scouts how to make bows on a weekend. They all finished up a board bow, was a very rewarding weekend.
Ive got more 7-12 yr old bow shooting friends than most people realize. Broke a sweat here yesterday while shooting(it was 83 degrees hot)
Thanks Mike, 13 degrees here right now:)
Great Job Goose. Passing it on is the only way it survives.
Good job, Goose! Hope to have a similar problem down here in South Arkansas soon. Kids love this "new" stuff!

Hey Goose you might not have as nice of weather to work with this weekend. You ever need an extra hand teachin those boys gimme a holler.
One of the fellas came over today and worked on his bow for a couple of hours. Here is some of the progress that we made. We made a string and I can tell you all that he was far better at his first flemish twist than I ever was. His first twist was better than my "let me show you how it's done". I can't tell you guys how excited he is about "being a man"and shooting something he made with his bow.

Here is the bow with it's first bend. There are definitely some areas of work and a hinge that will need to be taken care of right away before more bending. So far so good.

Okie we might have to meet up here soon if these guys get any more interested :D or just a good reason for me to meet another person to chat bow-making with.
Great job Goose, well done with the young men.
That is just awsome!
Yep
Just Awesome!
Very cool. :clapper:
Good job, Goose! Ask some of your boys if they have the Game and Fish archery program at their school. It seems like a good program for getting kids into the sport, eventhough the bows they provide have wheels.

Nice job! Getting the kids away from the Xbox. They will treasure these moment forever.
