And it came out exactly at the target weight. I love building these Hill bows.
Its 66" NTN, 57# @ 28". Cocobolo handle, bamboo core and ERC veneers. The Veneers split on me when I glued it up but you can't really tell in the finished product...as split cedar looks like cedar.
I put black glass tip wedges and made the bottom limb 1" short than the top. Black elk leather grip, FF string with padded loops.

Wow- that is a beauty!! Those tip wedges sure stand out. Great job on another one Brad.
that looks great brad!
it looks great. ruddy
nice stick brad.
Did you just use a staight form, and if so what did it consist of?
I've been thinkin about building one of these my self this summer
I actually used a form with 3/4" of reflex in it.. I posted a build along of that form a month or so ago. As you can see in that side profile pick it maintained 1/2" of backset.
Great job brad, I need to stop by some day just to say hi.
Howard
Great job. That is simply elegant, those Hill style bow are looker for sure.
what a beautifull bow.
Fantastic, love the colors, that is one sweet looking bow, congrats on a job well done!!!
beautiful bow! very mild reflex? Could we see a pic of the form? I'm thinking of building a new one this spring, maybe getting a little adventuresome.
Dick, that pic was immediately after unstrung (it was strung overnight to stretch the string)...it will gain another 1/8" or a little more as it sits. Here is a link to the form.
Here is a link to the form...remember this one

That is a great looking bow! Looks like Dick might have a patner for his evil plan. If that is not your swap boe I really can wait to see what you come up with for that.
Kelly
Good stuff Brad. Now you're making me want to build a new form, I don't have one for a Hill style.

Another beauty Brad. I've been waiting to see this one. :clapper:
Very sharp bow.
Brad
that is the nicest hill style I have ever seen....man what I would do to get a lefty version of that
Absolutely beautiful bow. But, can you explain the need to make the lower limb 1" shorter than the top. PM if you want. :clapper:
Brad, I will be your field tester? Very nice looking bow by the way. Flint
You did i fine job sir
Thanks gentlemen.
Its a quiet bow and it shoots better than I thought it would. The very first glass bow I made was a straight longbow and I had a hard time getting the shock out of it. Thin tips and a trapped back really help the cause and I cannot really tell that this bow has much shock at all. I put some coyote silencers on it and a FF string and I think those two items help as well.
The one inch lower bottom limbs allows for some positive tiller built in the bow (rather than making the top limb thinner or sanding the glass to achieve the same amount of positive tiller). When I was building this bow I took some notes from a friends 66" Howard Hill and basically built it to the same specs...worked well.
It looks like it should be a nice shooter.
Let us know after playing a little.
Beautiful stick! I really like the colors with the cedar.
looks real nice brad how s it do on the crono brock
Want to bring this back to the front! There is Howard Hill thread on PowWow, and this bow, and Brad, need to be featured!
We have great, crafts-People here that never get exposure to the folks who never stray from the main!
Please, someone post this over......there!
Let's turn some Heads :bigsmyl:
Beautiful bow Brad!
That is a beauty. Love that style. Thats what I am wanting to do soon.
I am just down the road from you. Do you shoot indoor anywhere?
Matt
A real beauty you got there
That looks real nice. Would you mind telling me, did you use three thin strips of bamboo for the core or are my eyes deceiving me? I'm still quite new to trad archery and have my sights set on building a laminated longbow sometime in the future. Thanks
Kris
Rimes,
Yes I used 3 core lams of actionboo and 2 lams of cedar for the veneers.
Very nice job. Looks great!
Beautifully done! I really enjoy seeing what you come up with. Keep it up.
Tim
