When making a glass "sandwiched" riser lam bow with only one tapered lam can you put that tapered lam on the belly?
Seems to me if you're going to cut into the riser to make the grip you might as well remove the joint between the tapered lams.
Or depending on the design the tapers might not touch in the middle at all during glue up.

I don't think it matters where you put your tapers in the stack. It's easier to get a flat riser to stack on flat lams during glue up though. I have all my lams tapered .001 on most bows that I build. I glued a reverse taper on the top of my form just under the aluminum strip on the forms for bows using a straight riser. That way the riser mates perfectly with the lam stack.
I generally do put the taper on the belly.
As far as the lam joins go, on my Forward Scout bows, the riser is usually laid directly onto the front of the lam stack. If there are any lams in front of it, they are one piece full length. All lams behind the riser are two piece and I pay no attention at all to their joins as the deep locator grip will involve grinding them out, as you say.
