Title: Reflex/Deflex tillering in GA...or close
Post by: Monkey Wrench on January 24, 2011, 01:17:00 PM
Hey guys,

I'm making a reflex/deflex bamboo backed ipe bow for the trade (actually building 2 of them *just in case*).

I've completed a few straight profile longbows, but this will be my first experience with a r/d design.  Is there anyone that is somewhat close to Atlanta that has experience with this?  I would be willing to drive up to 3-4 hours, which puts my range from Nashville to southern side of Georgia, and the edge of Alabama to Savannah.  I'm not looking for you to do the work, just lend advice and we'll tiller as a team.  Will also bring a good dinner, drinks, whatever.  The bows will be floor tillered and ready to hit the short string when I show up.

Thanks!!!
Brad

Brad I say " go for it!" If you have built straight profiles you can build r/d's all the same. Take your time and look at pic's of properly tillered r/d bows. Roy from PA posts some perfect BBO R/D bows. Its just wood after all, buy more if it breaks! I use pic's from this page all the time to help me through tough builds.

No hits yet, looks like I need to up the ante.  :)

Y'all realize I'm an awarded, pulled pork barbeque champion...right?  You teach me to tiller, I'll teach you to smoke.

I don't build R/D bows because I find them hard to tiller or I'd be willing to help you. Start working on it and post pics of your progress. I'm sure others will chime in to help you along.

tillering is just finishing up removing the bow from the wood it came packaged in. like plastic wrap , only not...

Make yourself a tillering gizmo, go with a short string in the bows string grooves and go slow.

It's my understanding a tillering gizmo will not work with a r/d profile.

No biggie guys, I'll do my best.  I figured there would be someone around here that wouldn't mind a 2 hour team-build.  Always good to meet new folks where possible.

bring them to st. louis. I'll give you a hand. We can make a weekend of it. I've been planning on a bow building weekend for awhile anyway.
