Title: fixing old screw holes in riser
Post by: boznarras on January 21, 2011, 12:18:00 AM
I have an old Bear K-mag that once had some sights on it. There are repaired screw holes in the riser, two of them that go all the way through. Must have been about 8-32 fasteners, about an inch apart. They have been repaired by gluing in pieces of wood dowel and then cutting and sanding flush.
I am considering doing some inlays to cover these up, maybe an arrowhead cut out of a contrasting wood and then finished flush.
Right now the bow works fine, just looks patched. Do you think this will significantly weaken the riser if I do an inlay on each face? Keep the cut depth of the prep down to 1/8" maybe? Or should I leave it alone? Thanks for your thoughts.

I don't think it would weaken the bow enough to be a problem. There are so many exocit veneers to choose from I would go for it. Then you would have a "custom"
