Title: sanding question
Post by: Steven Russell on January 20, 2011, 10:16:00 PM
Ok, I have a quick question for everyone.  When you have a light wood and a dark wood joined together, how do you prevent the dust from the dark wood from staining the lighter wood as you sand?  Any tips or suggestions?

Thanks,

Steve

I did a bow once that had both paduak and curly maple in the riser and I had the problem of the paduak coloring the maple.  I just kept sanding with finer and finer grits and eventually went to steel wool and it kind of cleaned itself up.

Yup.. do the same thing.  I just did a paduak and yellow heart.. once I got down to the 320 grit, seemed to stop spreading and cleaned up the yellow heart.
