I split a juniper log I was curing yesterday and founds some bugs. It was in a small section and they had bore barely into the sap wood. Two of the staves will be fine. My questions are;
1. Can the grub trails be sanded down on the other one and still be used?
2. Can it be backed with something or just pitch it?
You can possibly remove the affected ring or if not sand the back down smoothly and add a silk, linen or rawhide backing.
Thanks Pat I'll try the other ones frist but I don't have alot cut yet.
