I'm thinking about building a wood long bow. I have some black cherry staves that are far from perfect. I also have some nice ash 1"X2" boards. I am a total newbie and I won't be starting this bow until I build a second kids pyramid board bow. I have completed one that turned out far from perfect but I learned a ton about building a wood bow.
So I'm just in the planning stages and would like to know if Ash would make a good backing for black Cherry?
If this will work how should I prep the stave and ash board?
I wish I knew the answer to that Gary, but I've only made bows from Osage. I'm sure somebody here has done it and I did see a post somewhere about black cherry that turned out real nice.
I would do a search for it on Trad gang and see what posts turn up.
Just use the search engine up top by where it says "My Profile" and the "Search" feature is just to the right of it.
Hope that helps.
IF YA USE ASH IT WILL PROBLY WORK KEEP IT THIN ID USE HICKORY REAL THIN MY SELF BUT CHERRY WOULD NOT BE MY CHOICE FOR A LONG BOW ID GO WITH OSAGE, YEW MAULBERRY OR SOMTHING LIKE IPE BROCK
