Title: A Bownanza at my shop
Post by: Roy from Pa on January 16, 2011, 09:09:00 PM
A bunch of us guys get together at someones bow shop and make bows together. We call them Bownanza's. It's always a fun day.

Here is a first time bowyer laying out his first BBO bow.

Here they are glueing it up.

Between building bows and the beers........I want to join your Bownanza club Roy. My wife would NEVER see me if I had a set up shop like that. Nice place! I really like your form also, gotta build me one now.

That looks like a great time.

How many people does it take to qualify as a bownanza?  My buddy is coming over to work on his hackberry bow while I work on some osage.  Does that count?

Man I'd like to be a fly on the wall just to learn and to hear the stories too.  Envy you wood bow crafters.

LOL Scrub, two guys will work, but the more the better. We have had 10 to 12 guys at some of our Bownanzas:) Always neat because everyone is at a different stage of building their bow.

Pearl, thanks. The form is red oak, 6 inches wide, 6 feet long and 1 inch thick, then I bolted 1 inch steel angle down the sides, it doesn't bend:) I usually clamp it in the vice out in the center of the shop, but the bow horses took up that space a bit. It's nice clamped in the center of the shop though, then you can work on it from both sides.

Looks like a great time Roy. My little shop hold three, four guys at the most. Only two benches and one work table. No power tools either. After a few days in the shop my forearms are wishing I had a bandsaw.  Thanks for sharing.
