The other day I got an email from someone asking me for some advice on making a tiller tree. One of the questions asked of me was: What is the proper way to measure brace height and draw length?
My response to him was: Current archery standards are that the actual brace height is measured from the deepest portion of the grip to the string plus 1.75" however I have seen numerous versions of where brace and draw length is measured by.
Let the discussion begin: Where do you measure brace height and draw length from given all of the different riser / grip designs?
Brace height=from deepest part of grip to string
Draw length=from front of bow at arrow section of riser to string nock at full draw.
so then, a bend thru the handle - 30# bow, would have a shorter drawlength, than say, a take down recurve!!!!??????

I'm not sure about the differences between drawlength and bow type, but they clearly could have different brace heights. In my limited experience, brace height becomes a more necessary topic of conversation for bow tuning of tabbed risers or minimally cut risers than centershot recurves or other, I'm guessing too.

Fujimo, yes, that is possible. I make all my handles about 1-1/4" deep so I don't have to worry about that. If it's a bendy handle bow, I build up the grip with leather to approx. this depth.
So according to Sage when measuring draw on everyone's tiller tree, your draw length measurements start from the front of the riser at the arrow pass? This means with every bow you have you have to adjust the marks???
I personally have been using the deepest portion of the grip to the string nock for both draw and brace...
I measure string to back of bow. I just put a strip of masking tape down the tree when I have to adjust measurements for tillering . Jawge
I must be doing mine wrong also. I start measuring from the platform that holds the bow handle. So mine would be from the belly side of the grip to the string. Oh well, they still fling an arrow.
