I just got started tillering a hickory backed cherry wood bow and would like your thought on tillering.
It is 1.5" wide at handle and 66" from nock to nock with a 8" handle and tapers from the handle fades to the nock 1/2" wide at nock.

It draws #45 at 20" I have not drawn it past 20" or #45 and am looking to get somewhere around #55 to #60, is this doable?

Your bend looks good. I think I'd limit it to 50# though. If the string lines up OK I would reduce the tips to 3/8" or slightly less.
From what I remember in the TBB a bow 2" wide and around 66" long will make weight equal to SG.
If you want higher weight with cherry I'd go wider.
Ok, I will work It down to about 50#, Thanks guys. That will give me plenty of room to get as good a tiller as I can.
I made some cherry arrow shafts the other day while I was playing with the veritas 3/8" Dowel maker, the shafts turned out great but I was wonder If cherry would be good arrow material?
Looks great! Just curious (as an amateur bowyer), did you back your bow for aesthetics or potential breaking issues? I just completed a cherry bow...I used the sap wood immediately below the bark. The bow is 72 inches long with 2 inch fades (~40# at 26"). I made it lighter, longer, and wider then my Osage bows because I was worried it was going to break (per what I have read).

I backed it to help prevent it from breaking!... I made mine from a board I got from a friend with a wood mizer sawmill, the portable kind. I have found that guys with portable sawmills are a good resource for boards, they sometimes stockpile good quaility boards! I have not made a bow that was not made from a board but that is gonna happen soon!!! how did yours compare to a Osage bow? I am very much an ameteur! I hope to get it pulled to 28" this weekend, If it breaks then I will start over if it works out great I will post pics of full draw.
I hope to shoot it through a chorongraphic this weekend..I'll let you know (and try to post a pict). I heard that if a selfbow shoots 100 fps plus its weight, it is a decent bow (???). I don't think mine is going to break the sound barrier anytime soon.
