Title: Sinew/Sturgeon Juniper
Post by: Keenan on January 03, 2011, 11:03:00 PM
I saw some of you had intrest in PNW short bows. here is one I made last month.
This one is a 52" NTN sinew /sturgeon backed juniper. She is a short horse bow that is 59 lbs at 25" draw. and she has elk antler tips. She was made from the top side of a 6" branch. This bow has been a little over a two year long process. The stave was roughed out and dried for about 1 1/2 years. Sinewed last spring right before my last surgery. Skinned and tillered over the last couple months. This bow is for our horse farrier who brings me the sturgeon skins and some hides now and then. The skins are off of a fish he caught himself. He has been patiently waiting for a couple years now.  He has had a heart dream of taking an elk from his horse. Now it's up to him to do the rest.

Incredible. I love the shape at full draw. He is a very fortunate man. Does he do the tournaments where they shoot off horseback?

Thank you,
He has got it now and is loving it. He is fairly new to the Primitive archery world but great with horses. I did give him the contact info for the local horse mounted archery club.

I've seen this bow before. Not in person though. Beautiful work as always Keenan. The sturgeon skin looks prehistoric. I guess it really is! d;^)

What more can be said?  Most men on this board and the other forums would give their eye teeth for such a gorgeous bow.  I hope your farier appreciates how much effort you've put into this weapon.  I certainly do!
Are you healing up well?

Thank you all for the nice compliments. I'm glad you like it.
Roy, How are you my friend? I'm still around, just can't spend as much time sitting these days because of the back surgeries.I try to keep my committments to help moderate on PA so time on the other forums is a little more limitted. It's good to hear from you as well.

That bow is amazing and the sturgeon skin gives it such a prehistoric look and the transition into the antler tips is so smooth.  Nice work!

Keenan you are a bow making machine my friend.

I envy your crafsmanship.

Super sweet bow! The last bow that I remember you posting here was a yew bow and inspired me to get my hands on some so I will sending you some emails or pms and picking your brain a little.

If you feel like getting in the annual bow swap I put together here we sure would love to have you. (Hint, Hint)

Stiks

Thank you Goose,
Thank you Stiks.  I looked over the rules and deadline for the bow swap and looks like allot of fun. I am causious these days to not over committ due to the health stuff but, I do believe this is doable and could always send one of my own personal bows if things went sideways so I am going to enter. You twisted my arm enough. LOL
