Title: Cedar Backing
Post by: abstract on December 27, 2010, 11:28:00 AM
Considering making another reflex/deflex oak longbow. I used fiberglass last time on the back and belly, but didn't care for it. Any thoughts on using cedar as a backing on oak instead and no fiberglass at all? Cedar being a soft wood shouldn't create a compression problem for the belly would it? Thanks

Cedar isn't ging to work for a backing. Get you a good piece of hickory for best results..............Art

Where I'm at in Fla., ash, elm and hickory is not readily available.  If I use oak, are you suggesting I apply elm, ash or hickory as backing?
If so, wouldn't that increase the compression on the belly?
