I made 2/48" longbows for my grandsons for Xmas. I read once that you can calculate brace hgt. to be 13% of the bows length, which would be around 6". What are your thoughts. Thanks
That seems right to me? Worse case scenario they will just have to shoot the finish right off 'em and find out!
For shorter bows I put the brace height so the fletching clears the bow. I would think 6" would be too high bow a 48" bow. My normal brace height is about 5 1/2", my fistmele, for bows 60" and up.
I thought 6" seemed high as well. I applied 3" feathers and thought the brace should be around
5 1/4". They are 5 and 7 years old, so their DL is minimal.
I put the bows I made my kids around 5inch
Wow.. mine are at 7 1/2" for a 52" bow. I went with the normal 4" shorter string than AMO length?
I know the string will stretch some and will probably end up a 7"..
So what will this really do with the bow. I have played with brace height and other than noise, I can't say I have seen a huge difference in my shooting?
The bow I built for my daughter is a 48" and I have it at 5". It seems to shoot well there.
Bradford, Is yours a glass bow?
Most fibreglass bows will be closer to the 7 71/2" area.
Ron
Oh.. okay. Yes they are fiberglass. I was wondering about that.
