I've ordered the material to try to build my first bow. It's going to be a 3 piece take down long bow. I already have a box from and earlier attempt a couple of years back. Any hints on this type of bow will be appreciated.
Take your time drilling the holes for the limb bolts and index pins. This is one part that can make or break your bow.
I just finished a three piece longbow and will also add that the limb holes are really important,also mating surfaces of limb and riser pad need to be nice and flat.
I ordered a Bingham kit so hopefully the jig for the limb bolts will help.
I've been thinking about getting the Bingham reflexed 3pc longbow kit too. They say you can make bows down to 58" on the form (which is listed at 68" - way too long for me). I wonder if it actually works! Keep us posted!
With the jig from Binghams you need to be dead on or your tips wont line up. A hair off at the handle becomes alot by the time it gets to the tips. Do alot of searching here and asking questions and people will walk you thru it. Just take your time.
I have built several 3 piece bows using the Bingham drill jig and had good success. That being said like T Folts said you need to be dead on. I use dial calipers and measure to the center of the scribed mark on the jig from each side of the bow and I check it several times. It has worked well every time.
