When you see pictures bows like BlackTail Snakebit bows with two different woods in the limbs does the opposite side of the limbs have the same two wood pattern? If so is the pattern flipped? I have looked locally and cannot find any limbs that have two woods. I am thinking about making a bow with two woods that I like together but don't know if I will need just two tapers with the different woods or does the reverse side have the same pattern with the exception of the pattern being flipped over. The splice would be like an X verses a / which looks like it would create a weak point in the limbs. Thanks in advance.
I don't know about a balcktail, but on the bows I've made, I just put the two different woods on the back of the bow. That side is seen more than the belly. That's the reason I did mine that way. As far as weakness, the spliced woods are a thin veneer and add mostly looks. The cores under them and the glass over them do most of the work. Shouldn't have a problem with a weak spot. Mike
Thanks.
