Any tips anybody can give me will help.

I plan to rawhide back it. What width should I go with? I was thinking at least 2" wide. Should I follow the grain on the sides? I am going to leave the sap wood on. Will it hurt to violate the back rings since I am going to back it? It does have some twist....I may take it out with heat or just make it work as is.
Beetle,
I can't help but I hope you keep us up todate on this one. It is going to be a nice looking bow when finished.
Good Luck,
Kelly
beetle keep the sap as much as ya can rawhide it 2 in wide will work u said on p a u wanted to over bulid it so why not go 2 1/4 heck make a paddle bow out of it as for heat on erc not very good usally not good restulats with heat on erc blend ur heart wood into the sap but the sap s stronger than ur wood so shooot for like 50/50 sap to wood good luck brock
Yeah I figured wider could be better. I was not sure of heat. But the more I look at the stave the more I see that most of the twist is in the handle with a big hump. End to end the twist is not that bad. I think I can balance it out to work. It is almost 6' long rite now.
Ed Scott has some videos on you tube about cedar. I am collecting sinew at the moment for a cedar modified pyramid bow 21/4+ at the fades. Really nice stave ought to make a fine bow.
hows aboot an update on this one?

I'm anxious to see how this one turns out. ERC is everywhere around here and most people want to get rid of it.
Will get some photos up soon.
