Here is a tree that grows every over here that is some kind of old Iraqi military compound. I think the last time I came over I found out it was Eucalyptus. I can't really remember. Here is a pic of the leaves an fruit and one of the bark. Thanks again
oh and if so do you think it could be made into a bow. there is a lot of it here standing dead.

Thanks
There are many varieties of eucalyptus, some are good bow wood and some are not. If that is what you have to work with, give it a try.
Thanks Pat. I cant cut any living trees and there are plenty of dead ones not much varity. Thanks again
In that climate I don't think you have to worry about rot. Give it a try.
If you go to Bij Jim's site. His in stock bow number 4 has Eucalyptus limbs. Ask Big Jim about using Eucalyptus.
Thanks Raging Water. I will do.
I think what you have there is wild olive and not eucalyptus. They have very similar leaves but the fruits are different. Plus, ecalyptus is more commonly found in Austraila and SE Asia. Either way start chopping and keep us posted on your progress.
I agree with stick-n-stringer,look like olive tree,but I'm not expert in tree,so.
Thanks to both of you,
Pretty sure it is not olive, They are here but I have never seen them get the size of an Oak. Plus this has purpleish color. I think they were brought in but I just can't remeber the story. I quess it really does not matter I will just have to try one when they start getting cut down. I will try to get a long straigt log and split it and see. Although it may not tell anyone if it is really good for a bow or not since my last attempt did not go so well and that was with HICKORY! Thanks a gain I think I will try that Cedar liking thing first it is already a 6' stump so and now where near as big.
It certainly looks like a member of the eucalpyt family to me.
I'm no botanist but I've been surrounded by the bloody thing for 38 years :)
Crush one of the leaves and smell it. Is it a strong smell that clears the nasal passages?
Sort of like a Vicks vapor effect?
Andrew,
I will try tomarrow have been out for a few days just got back to my location. Thanks and I wll check it out.
Thanks,
Kelly
Keep your head down, Kelly! d;^)
Andrew,
The leaves when crushed do have a smell the reminds me of cough drops. I think I have at least two species,One in the pic and one that has a white smooth bark on youger limbs but is gray and rough. It remind me of sycamores in the states other than the leaves. I only seen one alive.
Pat B I always try. I am back up at warrior after spending time with some of my other soldier on another site. I plan on getting the cedar stump split soon. Thanks
