I finally got away for a great weekend of bowhhunting and while I was out I figured I would go see my osage guy. He said he has been busy and gave me the directions to a hedge row he was working. I found piles of osage all laid out for me to see. (http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/ss13/dvshunter/CIMG0163.jpg)
here are a few pics.
I would say thre was around 15 great logs and about 40 that were soso. I marked and sealed the ends and chose two of the better ones for the time being. (http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/ss13/dvshunter/CIMG0169.jpg)
Awsome! Looks like alot of good stick flingers laying there just itching to get out.
Stiks
(http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/ss13/dvshunter/CIMG0168-1.jpg) some of the other piles. It's so nice to not have to cut my own. No bugs, no sweating, no poison ivy. Just go and pick it out. Plus I get to see the rings before I pick em out.
These are the rings in one of the logs. I plan on splitting them after work today. I'll post some more pics. I'm thinking I will get around twenty high quaity staves if it splits like I want it to. (http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/ss13/dvshunter/CIMG0170.jpg)
It would be alot of back breaking work for a guy to go drag those logs out with out the right set up.
I need to find somebody around here like you got.
Does the guy you get your logs from ever cut any lumber out. I'd like to find a good source for slats.
Stiks
my guy just cuts posts. However, the amish have a sawmill a few miles away and I have been wanting to take a log to them and see what they can do.
I hear ya David, I'mm gonna take one of those hickory logs I got and get it quarter sawn for slats and backing material.
I'll get you hooked up when I get it cut.
Stiks
if you guys cut any of that , let me know what you want for a snakey second type stave. i need to get some wood seasoning for the trade this spring , and i dont know if my leg can handle me trapsing around looking for a locust...
if i dont hear back , im just going to cut down the one in the back yard....
