Title: SELFBOW BUILDING ADVICE
Post by: kansas stik man on November 02, 2010, 05:34:00 PM
I have built one three bows, one is still shooting the others just scraps now.  i know what tools i need and the concept.  but i have no dried staves to work with and there is not enough time to get any ready to build a bow this winter.  so my question is, where can i get a osage, black locust or red elm stave without paying a fortune for it?  some of those prices on **** about make my heart jump a beat.  :help:

Your probably gonna pay around 75$ or better for a decent osage stave.

There's a ton of guys in KS and OK with osage that would likely work with you to get something.  Try posting on classifieds and see what happens.

Mike McGuire sells osage and hickory at a reasonable price. Generally Mike's wood is pretty fresh so drying time will be necessary.
If you reduce any stave you can get to floor tiller stage it should be ready to work in a few month.
