Title: Backing Question?
Post by: DLH on October 13, 2010, 10:31:00 PM
I have a 60" hickory board bow in progress and was wondering if I back it with 1/8 in. hickory if I could do a 7/16 in thickness taper and still have a stron bow?
It will be 60" long 2" wide 8in handle with the limbs tapering from 2in off center to 1/2in tips. The backing will be 1 3/16 of and inch 48in long and tapering to a point.Any thoughts or suggestions?

I don't think I really understand the question but I would just add the backing and then tiller.  Don't pre taper it.

im reading that as he's asking about the specific dimensions' stated strength...

if you mean you have a 4" handle , 2" risers and a bow of 60" , would a backing work if it doesnt cover the whole length...?...

i dont know what im saying now , but what i have gathered from other peoples bows , is the backing isnt so critical in the handle area , but you do want it on the whole back of the working limb...

i think...
