Title: Horse Tail Hair for bow backing
Post by: getstonedprimitivebowhunt on August 23, 2010, 07:37:00 PM
Just a crazy thought..Has anyone ever use Horse tail hair for a bow backing.. Put on with hide glue like deer sinew ????  Seen a horse tail for sale. The hair is long and tough... Just wondering if it would work !!! Something different

Somebody did it a long time ago either on here or on the Stickbow.com ***********.  I remember so-so results were reported.  I doubt it has much tension value but I bet it will protect a back from lifting a splinter.  It will probably be heavy in a matrix of glue but it might be cool to do it.

I think someone also made a string from it.  Been a while and I've slept since then.  Did you try a search?

I used to have an upholstery shop and once in a while we'd get an antique that was upholstered in horse hair fabric. The stuff wears like iron. As for it's use as a bow backing, no clue. It may be worth a try though.
