I have read that a 14 to 1 ratio by weight is good for gluing backing and handles on selfbows. My question is now much do I mix up to glue backing and handle on a 66 or 68 inch bow and not have too much mixed up. Or worst get about done and run out of glue.
If I mixed say 50 grams of harder to (14 x 50) 600 grains of powder glue would that be enough or not?
If any of you have used this ratio please let me know how much you mix by weight for what size bow you make. I just hate to waste product and I don't have much money and to just waste things is a sin.
I mix by volume as per the directions on the can. It is easier to judge the needed amount for me that way. If not enough just mix a little more.
For backing and bow core 500grains of wet to 75grains dry
for handle 150grains wet to 23grains dry
Kevin should be about right if you have a grain scale. I believe the ratio on the package is 100 of the liquid to 13 of the dry.
I always make about 300 to 400 of the liquid and usually have to mix another batch to finish. So 500 should be good.

Thanks guys I think I had the mixing ratio backards in my post. I did read an article saying mixing by weight to 14 to 1 will eliminate handle pop off and attach backing secure. I guess some bow makers are using this ratio with good success.
14-1 by weight is the ticket for the strongest bond. Many people mix 2-1 by volume and it will probably work just fine. It's strong glue, just ideal when you mix 14-1 by weight. I was talking about mixing URAC with Dean Torges when I first met him. I listened to his advice, not because he was Dean Torges, but because I could tell that he was speaking from experience. He said that he no longer had any handle failures when he started mixing 14-1 by weight.
