I love selfbow hunting and muskie fishing..Has anyone ever used muskie skins on a bow back to decorate...??? Any thoughts on this.?? I'd like to have a bow backed with Muskie !!!
Also can You put a finish on fish skin backing ??
very interesting idea. id guess it would work just the same as carp or sturgeon as long as the skin comes off easily. i am guessing though it might not be very strong so it would of course be only for decoration as you stated.
WAIT I catch thick muskies 50 inch or better (leesville Lake) ...lol!
lol. ive never skinned a muskie so i dont know about how thick the skin would be.
Walkabout ..You hunt with selfbows ?
lol thats a good question. i hunted with traditional bows back in pennsylvania where im originally from, but with not so much luck. now that i moved here i plan to do all my hunting with bows ive made, granted i get the chance to hunt.lol hardest part is just finding places to hunt as i dont know too many people near me.
All I've used is grass carp. I used spray poly on it. I treated it just like snakeskin. Carp Skinning a Bow (http://sticknstring.webs.com/carpskinningabow.htm)
That is some cool stuff John,
Jeff I think that would look great, You go catch and skin a few bigguns and send to me so I can try it.I would not want you wasting your time.( :D )
I have some walleye in the shop now but they are short, so I need t figure out how to use them.
Chuck
I've seen catfish backing on short bodark bows made by Leon Blagg from Sulfer, OK and they sure looked good. Leon made bows for about 70 years. He recently passed away. Oops, I meant to post this on the cat fish backing thread, sorry
Two Tracks ..I'll do that .... as soon as i get the Big'ns
Walkabout wheres Heath at in Ohio ?
I think the carb backing is pretty neat. If you ever get the muskie put on please post a picture.
James
actually im in newark now, basically it and heath are connected. its about half an hour east of columbus give or take.its about an hour and a half from wheeling i think.
Good luck fishin,
I think it would work fine. Wasnt someone asking about using northern skins awhile back? Wonder what these jokers would think about your idea!?!? HAHAHAH!! Some of these people are so fanatic about releasing muskies there almost crossing into the realm of animal rights! See here.

I release most but if I want to eat one or use its part ..I'll keep them ...!
Nothin wrong with that! Tell anyone that would disagree with you keeping a legally caught, legal size fish to go pound sand!!
RAU ..I usaully don't pay attention to ignorence in action !!!! Thanks...Jeff
I know of a guy from Minnesota who backed one using skin from a Northern Pike. He posted pix on here and I wish I'd bookmarked them! As I recall, the bow was absolutely gorgeous.
I'm sure a Muskie would be cool too. The natural gray/green tone would make a fine camo.
Hey we got a bunch here in Michigan you can have! And you can tell the local musky crazies I sent ya.
jk the musky is a gorgeous monster. Thankfully our lake st clair is pretty full of em now. But it's torch lake that's got people buzzin.
