Title: my next project
Post by: walkabout on August 04, 2010, 01:37:00 PM
just thought id share a few pics of the stave im making my next bow from. its hickory, with some character and a bit of prop twist. im going to try to get 50#@28" out of it, but ill be happy even if it ends up in the 40's its roughly 64 inches overall, so im thinking im going to have to either make it bend in the handle or only shoot for a 27" draw. (http://i342.photobucket.com/albums/o406/p0go333/100_0511.jpg)pic looking down the back. about 45 degrees of prop twist on this limb.heres a pic of the rough front profile. you can see the bit of snakyness in the limb  (http://i342.photobucket.com/albums/o406/p0go333/100_0509.jpg)

I just finished peeling bark off three hickory staves a few minutes ago.  This thread will help me lots.  Talk about timeing.  Good luck, Walkabout.

no problem. i got another going too "first hickory longbow from a stave" not a walkthrough but i posted my dimensions and stuff. actually am very pleased so far, i just piked the other one by one inch per limb and its pulling 50#@24, unfortunatly my scale stops at 50# so im guessing somewhere around 60. got a new method of finishing too, using ground charcoal thanks to PatB, tried it on some scrap today and it looks really good.
