Title: Tru Oil and CA glue question
Post by: J. Holden on August 03, 2010, 09:33:00 PM
So I got ahead of myself and I'm afraid I may have messed up my bow.  I'm trying to skin, well I did skin, my take down recurve.  I didn't superglue the edges and am noticing the edges are rough.  I've applied two coats, rubbed on, of MinWax Clear Satin Urethane.  Can I apply superglue to the edges or will it screw up the finish?  Also, can I place a coat or two of Tru Oil on top of the Urethane?  Or will that screw it up?  Help please, thanks!

usually you put the urethane over the truoil to cut the shine down. as far as the superglue i cant say i know if it will work or not, usually i do all that before i put any finish on at all.

Thanks Richard.  I didn't look too closely at them this morning but it seems as though the areas I was concerned about are laying flat.  I guess a few more coats of urethane and only time will tell.

i smooth the edges of my skins with superglue and sandpaper, until im satisfied with the transition into the limb side. you could probably try the superglue somewhere like a small spot near the handle, where a little bit of sanding isnt gonna hurt.
