Title: selfbow back question
Post by: walkabout on July 31, 2010, 12:59:00 AM
working on my hickory selfbow, and was wondering if its safe to sand the back down to remove the layout marks and some of the cambium that was left. its not much but enough in spots that i dont like it.lol would a wire brush perhaps work better/be safer?

Hickory is more tolerant than other woods as far an messing with the back. I try to remove the layout marks as easily as possible. A light scraping or sanding with fine emery cloth or steel wool usually works or even a pencil eraser if pencil is used.
