Just finished this one today.
60" recurve drawing 48#s @ 28"
The riser is cherry dyed osage orange. There is a solid osage orange hounds tooth footed into the riser, boardered with hard rock maple and purple heart slats. The limb core is hard rock maple dyed the color of osage orange. Topped off with osage orange and purple heart veneers.
Shoots ok ;)

Wicked! :clapper:
That is one sweet looking curve
awesome colors in that beauty.
Very Nice Kevin. Great work
Outstanding!
There is definitely a home for purpleheart in my heart and you used it awesomely. Very nice shooter you got there.
Dang Kevin that is one sweet bow. I can tell those pictures don't do it justice. Did you dye the riser before or after final shaping? Really well done.
Thanks for showing it.
Very pretty bow!! What dye did you use? Bob
I have been using osage and purple heart lately too, i love that combination. the way you matched the maple with dye is very cool. great looking bow, makes me really want to get my glass bow form done finally.
wow that is a sexy bow...nicely done
Great job!

Galen, I dyed it all after it was together. Sanded from 80, 100, 120, 180, 320 after 320 I used LOCKWOOD'S WOOD STAIN & DYE with denatured alcohol then very lightly sanded with 400 and 600 then poly finish.
Yep, I agree with you too! I need a block of instruction on how to make the subject look it's best in a still picture.
I like the look of cherry, but it just didn't sit right with that osage hounds tooth footing. I used the lemon dye. The hard rock maple accepted the dye also, it looks just like osage from the edges of the limbs.
It's a looker for sure!
The name is Sweet, too! :bigsmyl:
That is one beautiful bow!
Great work, a fine looking bow! :clapper:
Kevin HanTaWee is still alive. She isn't as pretty as she was when I first got her but she still shoots. I took the weight down and sanded the bamboo where it was lifting then covered that with fiberglass cloth and smoothon. Put the snake skin over that to hide the repair and she hasn't complained a bit. Poundage is 50+ so I'm taking her along on an elk hunt this fall. These arrow weigh 675gr and she handles them well.

Galen,
Glad to hear she is still kicking it! That sure was early in my learning curve, heck I'm still on the curve, LOL
Been making glass bows for a while and everytime you finish one there is always a moment of sadness, relief, earnest for the next one. There is always that want, (for the next one.) Well, since you posted she is still alive, I had a moment and call to make a few composite bows, so... yesterday I decided to take inventory, LOL. Yep I took apart the O'l wood pile to see what was under the magic carpet. Everytime I take the tarp off and un-cover the woodpile it is like Christmas morning, evertime. I guess we all get that feeling, the mind starts to race, heart beat picks up and the wheels start to turn. I then spend two or three days thinking and planning, I even lose sleep for those pre-bow days. Hello my name is Kevin, and I'm addicted to making bows...hangs head, (with a smile.) :)

NICE BOW THAT SHOULD BE IN A ART GALLERY OR BETTER YET IN THE WOODS HARVESTING A DEER OR TURKEY. HAVE FUN
Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeauuuuuuuuuuuutiful Bow !!!!
I really like the looks of that one.
Winterhawk1960
just one question kev,
did you use tapers, or parallels only?
greets
herm
excellent bow kevin!! i see your still hogging all that HHB for yourself. LOL I am with you on the glass vs. wood thing. i am just finishing my first glass bow intend for a bowfishing rig. but i always like making selfbows in the winter when its just a bit cooler.
Thanks all for the kudos.
@ Herman, I used tapers on the belly, parallels on the back and .19/.20 veneers on back and belly. I use a Grizzly baby drum sander to make my lams, what really helped me get them to a quality stand point is..., I took some metal bar stock (6"w X 36"l X 1"t) to a machinest and had him cut them at .02 per running inch and the other flat for parallels. Herman, this has been so cost affective, the first bow I made from the equipment, paid for the drum sander and the platins.
@ Sulphur, make you a deal, or since I'm 100% Cajun (we'll) call it a barter. You give me some ideas on what your willing to trade and I will let one med.log HHB go to a good home. For me the HHB is like gold and harder to get than Osage. I LOVE working with this wood, it is absolutly amazing.
would love to, BUT the problem is i think we have the same stuff. I got what you got except HHB. i have a set of 13" buffalo horns, and i've started making bamboo arrows shafts other than that i don't know.
Kevin, you need to bring that bow over to my place for a shoot around! We shoot 3-7 times a week! Give me a call!
