Hey, all. I just finished this boo-backed ipe/osage from a blank from James Parker at Huntworthy Productions. It's 68" ntn, pulls 43#@26", has horn/osage nock overlays, has a trapped back, and a sunburst aniline stain dye-job on the back. It's sealed with several coats of lacquer followed by 4 coats of spar urethane, the last two of which were frosted. It's got a handle that finally fits my goofy grip (which is similar to Fred Asbell's). Not sure why the brace height appears so high in the second picture...it's only braced at just a hair under 6".
James does great work and is a great fellow to talk with. I'm not sure if he's still offering bow blanks or not...I'll check on that. But if he is, I'd highly recommend him.

looks great love the color choice on the backing. i bet its a sweet shooter.
Beautiful job 4est!
Terrific...love the colors of the boo
That is a real beauty. I did a Boo Backed Ipe a year or two back, from a glue-up from Richard's Bowery, in CA. Not quite as pretty as this one but I really like it. Probably still in the archives of the Bowyers Bench forum - somewhere - LOL. One of these days I may shape my handle a little more, but it's unique.
Yeah, here it is - LOL

Thanks for sharing, Bernie. Looks nice. I took a hint from you and Pat B and started snapping my full draw pictures in front of a sided wall...sure makes seeing it easier! :)
LOL - it does that, forest hiker ;) (neat "handle"). I had really been impressed with the BBI work and bows that Rich had shown (on paleoplanet) and finally decided I had to try one for myself. I really was pleased at how it came out and how it shoots. I'm sure you are with yours too. Bammboo and Ipe are really a nice combo.
Nice!
I've contacted James to see if he still sells bow blanks for those of you who have inquired. I've not heard back from him yet. I'll keep ya posted! :)
Thanks for the kind comments, too, guys! I did want to specify that I had James dye the bamboo before it left his shop.
Nice stik 4est. I think got one planned in the future.
Now that I have finshed a couple of shooters I've got plans for about a hundred or so LOL.
Stunning!
Nice bow, and good tiller.
Very nice bow, 4est.
I don't think James is selling glue up any more or components to do it yourself.
David Knight(primalneedarchery) does sell glue up and components.
David does some nice work on anything I've seen of his. Didn't realize he was doing glue-ups though. (I'll look closer next time I see his set-up - LOL)
David's glue ups take very little tillering to get a good bow. I've seen lots of then before and after and everyone that I know that has one is well pleased with the bow and the info and service from David.
Here's some pictures of the new matched dozen arrows I made to go along with my new bow. They're stained with an aniline tobacco/black sunburst and finished with lacquer, then 3 coats of Tru-Oil, then two frost coats of lacquer. Once fletched, they were coated with Gunstock Wax. The dye job was supposed to match the bamboo, but the colors didn't quite come out quite right. Oh well. I'm not really fond of the white fletching, but I sure do like being able to see the arc of the arrow in flight.
