Does anybody know what the angle is for your string grooves? I thought I'd better ask before I strart filing them out. I've got mine marked at 37 degrees. That looks about right to me.

Mr Krewson will be on shortly to show you how to figure it out I'm sure. Basically if you have an overlay on the back of the bow file that nock out first, then string up the bow and use a pencil to trace where the string lays against the sides of the bow.

I measure 1/2 inch from the tip in, measure 1/4 inch down, draw a diagonal hopefully the right way, make a pilot cut with a hacksaw and widen with a 1/8 inch file. More on my site. Jawge

I do mine like Eric. This way you always have the right angle according to the length of the bow. Make sure that all the sharp edges in the string groove are well rounded to prevent string wearing.

Mine end up kinda like Gregs.
I use a combo square to mark 45 on the limb edge,then round the groove on the belly toward the center of the bow. Ends up with a smooth place for the string at full draw(like Gregs)

My string grooves actually use 2 different angles. The inside of the groove(toward the handle) is 55 degree's. The outside of the groove(toward the tip) is closer to 80 degree's. This creates a groove that is wider at the belly side of the limb, which gives room for the string to move at full draw.

Well, one thing has become apparent to me, and that's the limb tips are the hardest part of making a bow. My hats of to you guys. Here's some phone pics of my first attempt at limb tips. I hope I get better at it, because I sure can't get any worse.

Really looks cool, but I think its bulky. Heavy tips = slower speed.
