Just finished off a bow I had been secretly working on. The bows name has a meaning and I bet at least one T-ganger knows why. I still need to do some final treatments to the bow but I was shooting it like a mad man this evening.
Some staves sure give me fight but this one came together very easily,,, unlike in the firewood thread I've still yet to finish. This satve had a couple inches of natural reflex and ended up just about perfectly straight.
This bow is of a flat bow design 61 1/2" in length, 1 3/8" at the fades down to under 1/2" at the tips; Braced at 6" it is pulling right at 50# @ 26".
I feel by the time I do some final sanding and shooting it will be just over 45# which should be perfect for its new owner.

Okay John, you get the next one!
Good looking bow Joe.
I got a stave with all kinds of character I'm working on and feel pretty good about. That BBJ I finished up for the Bow swap really gave me alot of confidence. Next year it will be Osage all the way!
Nice clean lines on this bow Joe and the full draw tiller looks right on!
Nice Joe.
Thanks guy's and here is one I forgot

very nice...you did a great job. tiller looks about spot on...
Bob
That is awesome! The tiller is great! Jawge
Real sweet Joe! Sometimes the bow just wants out and it seems so easy. You did especially well with the tiller on that one. There is something about the braced lines in that second picture that just says, "Look out deer!" to me.
Very nice!!!
Whoever is on your list for receiving bows are very fortuneate folks. There is a lot of grace in a simple osage wood bow and you bring it out well.
Nice bow, Joe! But are your shooting pics backwards? LOL
Stan
very nice joe. I still like those "simple" osage bows. They just look great.
sweet!!
:readit: I truley appreciate the responses,,, in fact,,, I think if it were not for this site and its really cool members, I would not enjoy this as much as I do.
Who is the Z-lander? :dunno: He'll be along soon,,, I hope?
I AM SPEECHLESS!!!!!! like wow!!!!!! buddy you have out done yerself that looks like a real shooter well all i can say is thank you so much joe and it is an honour to have you as a freind now i have another knife to make so you get two my freind. hey does the wife wear necklaces? if so i will make somthing fer her as well. let me know. jeff :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :thumbsup:AND I LOVE THE NAME Z-LANDER awesome bro :biglaugh:
Very nice bow. Is the bottom limb shorter than the top?
A true work of art.
Scrub, the bow is slightly canted in the full draw pics providing that appearance but, they're the same lenght.
Jeff, Glad you like it. I still have a little dressing up to do. Would you like antler overlays on the tips? Should we take that chance with customs?
I will include an extra string and a trinket or something if I can. Your offer for the wife sounds great. She gets mad sometimes cause I get packages in the mail and she dont.
Bear with me a couple weeks or so as I have to raise the money to ship the "Z-LANDER" to the other side of the world!
I'll post some final picture here once it is completed and shot in some more :archer2:
I'm gonna take a stab at this but is it z-lander cause it's going to someone in New Zealand or cause you couldn't get it to turn left like zoolander (ben stiller)?
Either way great work my friend. Way to keep us wanting to refine our work just by looking at yours!!
That is a very nice simple bow.
I love those and have dreamed of just the simplicity of a stick and string with no glass.
That one is splecial!!!!
Osage,
When I show threads on this website to friends, they always ooh and aah at the colorful glass bows, and I admit at first I did too. Now, after doing this for even just a short time (only a year and a half, compared to the lifers on here)I have an appreciation for the fact that its not easy. I have only made one stave bow that frankly wasn't all that spectacular. Everytime you post it makes me think how much harder thats got to be than just cutting down a board.
Ok, that was the long way of saying, wow, I wish I could make a "simple" bow like that.
antler tips are just fine bro . i have just sent the first knife in the mail  :notworthy:
International fame, Joe. Can you handle it! d;^)
You're a lucky dog, Jeff!!! Stick one of them red stags with it!
hell no pat i go after the fallow deer as it is only 1/2 hr drive from my house  and only cost a few bucks in Gas. cheap skate eh well as soon as i stick somthing with it i will send pics to joe.
Fallow deer will work too! d;^)
:bigsmyl:
when the "Z-LANDER" arrives i will be shooting it every day until i can shoot it as good as my centre shot bow. man i cant wait to get my hands on it it looks sooooooooo cool :readit: :clapper:
Ship date is the 30th so I got busy on the tips today.

Very cool bow, Joe. I'm sure Jeff will be pleased!!!
Nice work OT!
...sweet ..I'm working on a very special bow now ... In honor of my friend Greg "DOC" Albright (age 47) who past away this past week of cancer. I started crafting the bow the day we put him in the ground... Greg will be hunting with me this season..! Jeff p.s. Don't know if Greg has helped me along..but this is a bow that wen't so smooth building !!!! Rest in peace ... BUDDIE !!!
when i got Z-LANDER i was so pumped got it out of the tube tried to string it but i could not man this bow is so strong or i am weak one or the other any how rang up joe and told him to cut a long story short i had a go at thinning it down some to get it to my draw weight and was supprised i did it and boy it shoots good i will get joe to post some picks of it. as i cant down size the bloody pics.
Very cool Joseph. Now Jeff lets see some arrows with blood on them.
Jack
you may have to wait a while jack as this will take a bit of getting used to. but it will happen
Unfortunetly my scales are off by almost 8 lbs. I was getting 46 @ 26 and Jeff measured the weight as 54 with the scales he used. Better higher than lower though!
I was devestaded when Jeff called and told me this as I wanted him to be pleased with the bow.
Too expensive to ship it back because of the length so I asked Jeff to cut the bow in 1/2 & send it back so I could reduce it and make it a takedown 2 peice. Jeff said "No way, I can't cut this thing in 1/2!".
The only option was for Jeff to do the reduction himself. Though reluctant to begin shaving the belly down as I described, Jeff started in on equally removing wood from the limb bellies.
I must say Jeff did a great job for a beginner, the bow turned out 46 2 26 and that is just where he wanted it to be.
Jeff, maybe my overweight bow started up an interest to build a bow of your own someday.
Here's a pic at full draw me @ 54 lbs and Jeffs rework @ 46 lbs.

Looks like the Z-Lander turned out to be a combined effort. Great job Jeff!
Again Jeff,,, if for any reason you're not happy with the bow, I will make you another. All you have to do is ask!
How is it's performance after reduction? Please describe the before and after if there is any difference in cast, set, or feel.
Looks like Jeff might have a little natural talent at tillering for sure.
Great bow guys.
Osagetree ... Makes me happy to see bows like this ..Sweet !!! Great job all the way !!!!
well joe i am so happy with this Bow Bro it is awesome so you dont have to make me another.... but then again if ya want to i wont argue with that you have done an awesome job. performance after i took it down some i realy cant tell the difference it shoots just as Quick before i took some wood off :scared: well the before cast i would say would be a lot Quicker but as i could not pull it back to its full draw i cant do it justice. but now it seems to be just the same as it was when i pulled it back for the first time. as for feel it feels real nice an smooth and when you say set is that string follow? if so there aint any i took it up to the club and i had so many people wanting it. aah ah no way jose man i had to have eyes in the back of my head because as soon as i turned my back someone was there fondling it. :notworthy: as soon as i can i will try and get some meat with it or win a comp either one i dont mind. thanks Joe weed you are a talented man. it is an honour to know and call you a freind. jeff :notworthy:
Well, now I can say got bows I've made from here to New Zealand & have friends all around the world!
Sure glad you're happy with the bow as I certainly am happy,,, oh Cheryl too,,,, oh and my Son as well! He ended up with the quiver as he needed on bad!
In trade the "Weed's" got knives, greenstone jewels and a real nice quiver,,, not to mention some killer bodkin arrow points and boar hunting books. I'd say I got the better end of the trade!
no problem Brother i have bow in the back of my mind that i may have to talk with ya about mmmmmmmmmmmmmm  talk to ya next week sometime.
