Title: HELP (another one bites the dust *pics*)
Post by: kmc06005 on July 05, 2010, 08:17:00 PM
Heres my second Maple/Ipe bow that bit the dust.

I think I tried to put a short string on it a little too soon.

Can anyone offer any advice about why the.e bows keep exploding on me?

Mike...I might suspect the glue...Ipe is oily for one thing and the backing looks completely separated from the belly wood...just guessing.  I'll be taking kids to camp tomorrow and won't be back until Friday...then Mojam is the next week Thursday-Sunday...but I'll be home next Saturday thru Tuesday if you want some help or some good glue.   :)
Sorry that one blew up...I blew one up at 28" 2 days ago... LOL...

Will you post pics of the back at the break? I'm always suspicious of backing failures first.

i agree it looks like the backing peeled off from glue failure. like the previous post said with TB glues they need perfect mating surfaces and good pressure, although not so much that you squeeze all the glue out. sorry this one blew on ya, looked like it wouldve been a beauty.

I'm sorry to hear that.  It looks almost identical to my failure.  Don't really know what to tell ya, but I'm going to be gluing up my bow immediately after thickness sanding and using more pressure on the inner tube clamps.
