I recently cut a 7' long, 8" dia. limb from an eastern Red Cedar that has been dead for some time, most of the bark is gone and there are some checks in the sap wood that run half the length of the limb. Is this worth putting any time into, or would I be wasting my time? Sorry I don't have any pics. Dan
Dan, ERC heartwood is pretty rot resistant. I would back it but it should be fine.
Pat, Thank You for the reply. Would rawhide be a suitable backing, or should I be looking at a wood backing of some type?
Rawhide will work fine for protection. With a wood backing(hickory, hard maple, elm)you could add reflex and get a bit more zip out of it.
Never did a hicory backed bow before, might give that a try. thanks again for the help.
