Title: Need help selecting a new string.
Post by: GraniteStater on June 04, 2010, 09:02:00 PM
I'm currently shooting a #60 Lb Damon Howatt Hunter.  Not sure what year, but it was before Martin started making them.

I'm trying to make sense of how long of a string I should order.  The AMO is 62" but I've read with certain materials the string should be 4 inches shorter, some 3, and with some older bows considerabley shorter.

I'm trying to learn about materials, and the differences.  Dacron can be shot from all bows right?  But fast flight you need reinforced limb tips?

Any advice on what would work for my Hunter would be much appreciated.

If I remember right for a long bow the string should be 3 in shorter than the bow and for a recurve 4 in shorter. You are correct about being able to shoot dacron from all bows but with fast flight you need reinforced tips

Very good, thank you.  Still have so much to learn.

A fellow trad ganger is building me and sending me a string, this community is very giving.  I appreciate all the help!
