Title: Hickory board
Post by: Balding Kansan on April 25, 2010, 06:48:00 PM
Can anyone point me in the right direction to get my hands on a hickory board? I don't know if it's the central KS area I live in or what. I've searched lowes, home depot, and hardwood suppliers in the area. If I got one shipped from out of town then I wouldn't be able to check out the grain of it. A little help please!

i feel your pain, i cant find any local either.only thing ive considered was buying a hickory stave from somewhere, its more expensive but when you dont have the means you do what you must. good luck.

hi kasan

had same problem here in central california.
i got on google maps went to the closest big cities and started searching out hardwood suppliers.  (CALL AHEAD! lots wouldn't sell to individuals, just companies)
eventually found a really great source of hardwoods. (in sacramento, if you happen to be driving my way any time soon!)

by the way:  it was TOTALLY worth it.  FAR superior to all the oak boards i tried.

Thanks for the input guys. My boss has a couple growing in his yard, but always gets mad when I talk about cutting them down. Guess i'll have to go undercover!
