Title: Which Lam On Belly/Back?
Post by: ChristopherO on April 08, 2010, 06:56:00 PM
Ready to make my first recurve glass lam bow.  I've seen on build alongs here where the tapered lam is placed to the back of the bow.  A bowyer told me, yesterday, though, that he puts the tapered lam to the belly and the paralell to the back.  Is there any difference or do you have a particular preference which goes where?
Thanks for the insights.

If I use any combo of parrallels and tapers I always put the tapers on the belly as well.  Im not sure it matters, but its the way I've always seen it done, the way I've always done it and the way Bingham recommends.

I have done it both ways.  The parallels are usually thinner than the butt end of the tapers, and thus easier to bend to conform to the riser.  I have always oriented them based on how much bend will be required.
