Title: Applying Massey finish ??
Post by: T Folts on April 08, 2010, 05:18:00 PM
Has anyone sprayed Massey finish on their bow?
I have read about applying by hand but I want to spray it.

I've done it.  I mixed some 2 part in a container and thinned with acetone.  I used a small touch up sprayer from Harbor Freight.

Cupcake had a build along a couple years back where he sprayed Devcon 2 part 5 minute epoxy via a Pasche airbrush and it really worked well.

I tried it with acetone and it worked but had some pretty good orange peel to the finish.  Someone recommended MEK as a les volatile solvent.

You probably can mix it with a flat piece of wood and stir.

I just add the whole sytring to the mixing jar and then stir it up and then add up to 5:1 acetone.  I don't use it much because it's such a pain to use.  But it is tough.

Devcon 2 ton epoxy and either acetone or MEK.
A ration from 4:1 to 10:1 (solvent to epoxy)can be used. After reading older post the MEK may be a better choice as it doesnt flash as fast as acetone.
