I'd like to donate a custom bow for the St. Jude's auction. I remember in one of the early auctions several members worked togather on a selfbow, sending it around so each bowyer could contribute their specialties to the bow. I think it would be fun if we utilized some of the talent on this forum to do the same.
I'd be fine with donating all materials and all work but I'd like to see others on this forum get involved. Maybe a couple guys donate a special piece of wood, another glues up the riser, someone else has some killer veneers, etc. We could assemble all the materials and take a picture for the auction. Winning bidder could have the bow built to their specs. I'd be happy to glue up the bow on my Osprey form. Someone else could do the tips, someone the finish, leather wrap, etc. If someone wanted to add an armgaurd, knife, arrows or anything we could make a nice package deal.
Of course, there would have to be a build along. :bigsmyl:
Who's in?
Chad
TTT
Sure, I'm in. I have some nice wood and awesome veneer. Just let me know what flavors would suit the bow.
Chuck
I think this would be a great donation to the fund raiser.....good for you guys that get involved.
Great Chuck, that's the spirit. Hopefully some others will get on board otherwise I'm going to put people on the spot. Chad
Chad, I will make a riser block and cut some matching veneers and overlay material if thats cool. Send me riser block specs, and I will run some choices past you.
How bout a couple pcs of glass? Pick yer poision...
Thanks guys. Do you think it would be better to build the bow (say a 50#er RH bow) right away and post pictures of the completed bow for the auction or assemble the materials for the auction and build the bow to the winner's specs?
Chad
Maybe glue it up and such, do as much as you can, but wait to cut the sight window. That way a lefty can get it if they want, and it will reduce the waiting period a little.
Bodork is going to glue up one of his special risers for us when that time comes. I'm going to grind out some actionboo tapers and glue the bow up. I'll tiller the bow before it leaves here too. Kenny is going to donate the glass. Chuck, do you want to donate the veneers? Would you also like to glue on the overlays? How about shaping grip and tips? Finish work? String? Arrows? Matching knife?
Thanks guys, Chad
OK, I can do it all but the knife. :D
Have bodork show me the riser wood and I will get some veneers to you. Are you sure you would want someone to do the grip? Holm-made bow should have a Holm-made grip.(I think). just let me know what you need, and when.
Chuck
I think my veneers will be around 021-022 when done.
I have nothing to contribute in the way of bow building skills, but just wanted to give you guys a big hand for putting this together!
Well done!!
:clapper: :clapper:
I'll make a string for the bow as well as a handmade finger tab. Let me know what we need and I'll make them up and send them to you.
Great. Chuck these's no sense in shipping the bow back to me to do the grip. Your grips look great. It's not really a Holm-Made bow, but a Trad Gang bow.
We haven't picked out any riser woods yet. What does everyone like for wood combinations? I like to get some input as to what people would like to see for riser wood, overlays, etc.
Chad
Where do I send the glass? And what kind? :archer2:
.043 ULS clear of course. No hurry on it either. You still have my address? Chad
Yep on the addy, 1.5" wide?
Also, I have some new lengths coming, will 66" glass work,or does it need to be 72"?
66" will work, 68" is better. 1.5" wide.
p.s. Kenny, the zebrawood looks great, thanks. Chad
72" it is then,no point in possibly coming up short!
I thought you would like that zebra!
hey chad i just saw this, i can make an arm guard and of course string silencers.
That's great, Dan.
I spoke with Chuck tonight. Were going to get going on this project right away. I'm going to send some wood to Bodork this week. We'll go ahead and build a 50 pounder, RH bow for the auction. We decided it would probably create more interrest to get it done. Chad
Ok, here is where we are at with this project.
Kenny sent me the glass. Mike B glued up a riser block. Chuck D sent me some veneers.
We are going to wait and build the bow to the winning bidder's specs to be completed sometime mid summer.
Dan, are you still in for arm guard/silencers?
Brad, string/finger tab?

Alright Chad, you have me hooked! Sounds like I get to shape the grip, laminate the overlays, and final finish. What is our schedule looking like Chad?

Thanks Marty. As soon as the auction 3 is over and the winner lets me know the poundage, I'll have the bow glued up and sent your way within a couple days. I put mid summer for a completion date in the auction.
Chad
Yes sir, I'm in on the string and finger tab.
Figured mozambique veneers, I am told. Very nice. Chad
Since this is gonna be completed mid summer How about I throw in a custom Side Stalker Quiver?
Chad let me know so I can get me some leather rounded up.
If you need a few pics of a couple quivers I've built let me know.
Stiks
Great, can you post a couple pictures here? Or send me the URL so I can. Thanks, Chad
sorry guys, havn't checked this in a while. Yeah i'm still in on the arm guard and silencers. Chad is there a particular color scheme of silencers that you think would look good on this? Also what size arm guard?
Sorry I haven't responded earlier. I was having trouble logging onto Trad Gang. I plan to glue up the bow as soon as I get back from Comptons. I will send it to Marty.
The string and silencers can be sent to Marty. Everything else, sent to CHAD (the winning bidder.)
Any questions then you can get a hold of me. Thanks, Chad
I got some new ideas for a quiver to go with it Chad. I'm gonna fix this one up good. it will be a little different than the ones in the pics of the auction but it will be sweet.
Stiks
Thanks Chad for organizing this...
And thanks to CHAD for bidding!
Finger tab is made..something a little different. Calf hair for the surface, soft, short beaver fur for the back and 10 oz latigo and sinew thread to hold it all together. It feels pretty good to shoot with it and I am sending it off with the string to include in the bow package.

Nice one Brad!!
Chad, do Brown/Yellow/Brown silencers sound good to you? Also, what size arm guard?
Silencers to Marty
Arm Guard to CHAD
Brown and cream color would look better. I am working on the bow now and will post some pictures when the wife gets home. She loves it when I call her that.
