Post by: Trux Turning on April 03, 2010, 08:14:00 PM
Picked up some brazilan ebony to go with some birds eye maple.

Surprised whenI cut into it! This is the cut side.

Glued up a couple of risers- so far I don't think I'll be disappointed with it.

I just finished a bow with that combo a month ago. It looks great and has alot of weight.

Mater- it is heavy- I was suprised by the colors in it as I sanded and cut it- don't know if it goes back to the solid dark color after time- but I'll find out. Now to decide on which riser to use first- the top or bottom one.

Had some time to glue up a bow yesterday and got to do some work on it today too- I used the lower riser in the picture from above- since cutting/sanding on it the dark color had all come back. Still needs overlays glued on and more limb work but right now it is around 56-57#'s @28".

Got lots of finish sanding still left. Shot some arrows through it this afternoon and am happy with how it shoots. Should finish 53# @28". The brazilian ebony will darken up quite a bit from how it looks now. Now for the part I tend to rush-- the finishing.

Finished this about a week ago and the brazilan ebony has really started to darken up- hopefully it gets back to the almost black color it had prior to cutting and sanding on it. The bow finished 53# @ 28" and flings an arrow pretty well- may even get to try it out at an archery range next week if I'm lucky.
