Title: Removing string tip overlays
Post by: SL on March 28, 2010, 09:04:00 PM
I have an old recurve I need to put new tips on and wondering the best way to remove the old wooden tips.I plan on going back on with linen macarta. Do I just grind them off with a dremel or is there a better way?

Just have to grind em off. There is no easier way. If you are steady with the dremel then do it that way. The only thing you want to watch out for is overheating the glass or taking too much glass off. Once the wood gets really thin you may want to do the rest by hand.

Just got done doing this.  I tape up the area not to be grinded, and carefully remove all the overlay material with a oscilliating sander.
