With so many great build allongs being done, the new guy to bow building has some great references to get us started. Unfortunately many of these build allongs become lost in cyber space, the photos dissappear from photo bucket etc, making the build allong useless.
I would like to start a new section on my site to host/ archive some of the better build allongs for new bow builders to access. These build allongs helped me a lot, and I know they are the tool that gives the new guy the direction he needs to get started making bows.
If any of the authors would like to store their build allongs I will make the space available, including saving the photos that go with the build allong so that they do not fade into cyber space.
All I ask is for the authors permission to save his build allong and make it available free to others that would like to use it.
We have lost so many good articles , it is a shame. Those by Ferret are excelent, but now with no pictures they just confuse us. I wish I had saved his work rather than just book marking the adress. I hope that I can help save these excelent articles that you create for the future new guys that need direction.

If any of mine make the cut, I'm all for it. It is a shame some of those older build alongs are lost when the photobucket album is moved/changed.
If they made a bow they made the cut. Just direct me to where they are and I can get them edited and on a page. I am looking for build allongs that take us from a board or stave to a finished bow, that a new guy can follow and use to build a bow .

You need to check out 4est trekkers build along here.
It got me as well as a many others started.
Indeed 4 ests build is a must. I think its one of the most helpful buildalongs out there and I think it needs to be preserved for future builders.
Forest and I already have it in the works, It is excelent, and exactly the type I hope to save from being lost.

thanks pete. great idea. ferrets stuff is gone and it really irks me. such a shame.
i went to look for Dutchwarbow's all bamboo build along the other day and couldn't find it, i really like that one
Sulphur, before you get too discouraged over the loss of Mickey's stuff, let me brighten up your day: I have a lot of his pictures (full buildalongs) saved from both TG and his now-dead MSN site. Also, another member on here (Tony Thornton) has indicated that he has several megs of Ferret's pics and buildalongs as well.
I was lucky enough to have John Scifres' old original string making tutorial that he thought was long gone. Mickey and John were pretty much the pioneers on this group for buildalongs. Luckily, Jawge's own websites are still intact.
Rusty Crain had some really neat posts on here about osage sliver bows and pony bows, and I have some of that as well.
Ionian did one on gorgeous footed arrows that is absolutely awesome, and I have it as well.
So I think that by getting the drum-beat going like you have in this thread that we can round up a lot of it. I was talking to KennyM about the urgency to get his great buildalongs saved and backed up, and I'm working on that as well.
You guys are right; folks delete photos from Photobucket, and of course, Photobucket could change policies or die like MSN groups did with John's and Mickey's. Problem is, any web site is subject to go by the wayside.
I really wish that we could work with the moderators and figure out a solution to get the pics restored for the buildalongs by storing them here on TG - and see if there's a way to get them backed up as well.
I'll work on getting my stuff organized and edited, and post back here a bit later. For the old TG threads, I saved the entire html for those, so it includes advertisements and all. No need to include those in a reconstructed thread.
Looks like we have momentum. Any of the old build alongs that you can re-construct, I will gladly store and edit out the chatter adds etc.
You can send them to me by email pete@peteward.com or by skype peteward.com

Excellent idea Pete and great for you to step up and offer this. It is a great shame that so much stuff is lost. Really a let down to try and go back to something you've bookmarked to find it gone or missing images.
If you still have the links, you might be able to get the pages back from the wayback machine.
Go to archive.org, and type in the link that you have that no longer works. They archive pages, so it might be in their archive. You can then save it out of the archive and repost it somewhere else.
I have had about 80% success using this method for pages that used to have good content.
Feel free to use mine. It is a binghams lamination longbow, and I had a lot of help from the folks on tradgang.
