A while back I asked if anyone had any specs on a Herter's Perfection 46" bow or a Wright Stalker...Well I attained some great specs from you guys and made the form.
After a quick shipment from Kenny on some actionwood and angle cut lams, I got one glued up. Here is where I have it now. If I get some time to get some overlays on I might have something to shape on Sunday.
It draws nicer than I thought, but the same old story with me...a little too light. I am guessing it is around 44# or so. I tried to draw it back a bit for a pic. I love the looks of this little bow though. In the pics below it has about a 8.5" braceheight of where the grip will eventually be.

Man that's a cool little bow and in my weight too!!! Nice job. Keep post the biuld.
Not sure why the pics are coming up as links..rather than pasted like they used to?
Man, you've got ambition! Great little bow! Always like looking at your work. Keep it up.
Looking great!Keep up the great work!
Thanks guys. I like this little sucker. I think this bow design would really benefit with a uniweft lam in the middle adding some lateral stability.
Really neat. The sweeping limbs remind me of cape buffalo horns, simply outstanding. That will make a great blind bow for turkeys etc.
That is cool. Glad you put one together and look forward to seeing how it comes out. Will pester you for more details.
i like it! can't wait to see more
That is one cool design. Great job.
-mike
thats a cool looking form and bow, I'll bet the lams are going to look awesome. How far are you drawing it? I have a 26 1/4" draw and I'm thinking about building a 56" forward riser recurve form next month..
I'd say the limbs in the pic are as if they are at a 28" draw. Its probably only 26" in the pic, but the grip is not formed yet...that will deepen the deepeest part of the grip about 2" from the block form it is in now.
VERY interesting!
Cool design. I have made a simular, a Wright D-Bow copy, but with no success. Have you paralell or taper limbs? (I used parallel)
I used two tapered laminations, both tapered at .001 per inch.
nice work as always. lookin forward to seein it finished.
Nice stuff Brad!
That looks good.
Thats wild looking....nice work!!!
Dang, Brad ! That little bastard is looking wild. You're really hooked up by this short suckers, aren't you ? What are you going to do after this one ? A riser with recurves ? Recurves without a riser ?

Andy
These shortys are fun...and sometimes its hard to make the same bow twice, but I think Ill crank out a few of these over time.
Cool bow Brad, are ya turkey huntin with that one?
Dark limbs and all,just wondered.
It would be ideal for that....but I actually have never gone...planned to this year, but definetly blew the app deadline....dang it.
crazy
I love those short bows. We reviewed Rodney Wrights Stalker a few years back, and it gave me a new apreciation for shorties.
Pete
one word - AWESOME!
i like that little bows!
greets
Pete, reading your review was one of the main reasons I decided to build one of these.
Rodney recomends a brace of 9 1/2 to 10". It sounds high but shoots very nice there.
Glad you liked the review.
Pete
Dang it that looks cool, you sure make some sweet looking bows.
I now have the tip overlays and front overlays on and have started to shape it before calling it a night. I had the chance to shoot a few arrows through it and its been good so far. Its a shame it will turn out so light. I'm slill deciding whether to add a thumbrest on it yet or not.
Here are some pics
Rough, unshaped tips.

It looks pretty crappy right now but this weekend it will turn into a nice little bow.
the curve in that handle is crazy. how does it feel when you are drawing the bow?
on a side note, you don't by chance know any Glaubers that live up that way do you?
It doesnt feel all that bad, but it def. hits a wall at just over 28". I can draw and shoot it fine, and once I slim the handle down that will give me another 3/8" of draw so I think it will be good. No I dont know any Glaubers...that being said I havent always lived here though.
Well it sure reminds me of my Stalker, and she hits a wall @ 28' too. What weight is it coming out at ? They are fun bows to shoot, I bet you'll really enjoy it....good job BTW
Its going to come in too light...I bet it finished at 39-40#. With some of the data I got from the Herter's .001 of lam stack difference will change the poundage 2# basically...so its a touchy recipe to say the least.
That's a winner Brad.Looks good at full draw,no finger pinch and limbs are working.Let us know how it shoots.
Bill
Holy Toledo, that shape is real... swoopie. Nice.
Almost complete now. Just need to final tiller, final sand, and then start the finishing process. I think it looks pretty sharp. Check out what I did on the front. I thoguht the overlays on the front looked proportionally large compared to the rest so I wanted to break it up a bit. If it hasnt been done to a bow before you saw it here first. I think it looks pretty nice and certainly breaks up a large black overlay.

cool
Very sweet Brad you did a great job on that one.
Dang Brad, you did a great job on that one. That overlay really looks cool.
BTW how do you calculate the stack on your short recurve bows ? Is it all experience or do you have some sort of table ?
----------
Andy
Andy, I take finished thickness measurments from similar bows as well as compare my estimate to other bows I've made. I do have tables but they are simply Binghams tables (or interpolations of them). At the end of the day its an educated guess, and with a little luck it comes out at the desired weight. But as you can see it doesnt always work (like this one being 15# off).
Great job Brad!
Wow that thing looks great.
thats a wicked lookin little recurve. great job.
That overlay looks cool. Kind of like file work on the spine of a knife blade.
Definitely a new touch on the overlay there!! Looks pretty sweet!
That's a fine lookin' bow you've made.. Congrats.... :clapper:
Very nice looking bow!
Thanks for sharing

should i send you my address now!!??? i have been wanting one of your creations since i saw that greybark recurve. you do great work!
Ha, yeah send it over Sulphur. Thanks for the comments. You know that greybark recurve was one of my favorites too. Everytime I learned something new I went back and reworked that bow. thinner tips...smaller handle, radius shelf, lower shelf, overlays on the front..i reworked it several times...here is a pic of it now and it belows to a friend of mine who is just getting into trad archery.
Wow, how do I get on your friend list? Hahahahahaha that is beautiful. Now I just need it at about 55 lbs @26".
looks like a fun one. nice job of the riser! very nice
one of these days i will try and actionwood riser. they look awfully cool. how much heavier are they??
I dont think it is that much heavier. It is certainly lighter than cocobolo, purpleheart or bocote. This 46" bow is light as a feather and its basically solid actionwood. Comparatively, I would say it weighs somewhere between hard maple and cocobolo.
Your work always looks top notch Brad. Great looking bow!
Got the Herters 46 all finished up and ready to shoot. Here are some final pics. I'm looking forward to making another one of these.

Simply Awsome except for the arrow shelf,,, it is on the wrong side for me!
simply stunning!!!
I once said that I didn't like actionwood... But I do like it on this bow!
good stringangle too... how's the stack? Guess it's surprisingly little for a bow this short?
Keep up the good stuff! recurves are gorgeous!
Nick
Thank you...The stack is not too bad actually. In that picture, I think it has about a half more inch of draw in it before it hits a brick wall.
Man is that thing SAWEEEET!!!
I'd love to get a bow with that riser & 64" limbs!
Man, that bow is WAY COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Talk about a blind bow!!!! Awsome work. Must be nice to have that kind of talent.
 :clapper:
kybowman
Amazing, I love the details in the riser...
:bigsmyl:
She did turn out purty.. ..that's for sure. She looks like my Stalkers long lost twin. You did an awesome job on this one, I'm amazed with talent here. :notworthy: :notworthy:
Man I love that bow. When i was a kid i always wanted a Herter's 46 incher. Nice job.
Great looking bow! What is the brace height on that bow?
Josh
Brad, again you did a fantastic job on this one. This bow is not of this world. Far out man, just freakin' AWESOME !!!! I like the overlay that really looks cool.
----------
Andy
Thank you guys. I used a 9" brace height on this bow, (in the strung pictures it is at 8.5")
very nice
Good news.........Brad's little 46"er has found a new home. :saywhat:
I took some pics and I'm in the process of uploading them now. I'll try and post some pics tomorrow. Brad sure did build a fine little bow here. :notworthy:
:goldtooth:
Well done. :)
The little bow looks awesome.
Pete
Well here's a pic of them together. The BJ is just a little thinner, and pulls 30# @ 25" for my wife. (http://i567.photobucket.com/albums/ss116/joekeithspics/Archery/bows/Stalkers/BJ%20Stalker/007.jpg)
Excellent picture. Its nice to see them together side by side....pretty close match for going off a picture and a few measurements!
That is very sweet. Bjansen was nice enough to send me a copy of the plans, I have got to try one of these. That bow is just to cool not to try one. Simply one of the most intriguing bows I have seen in along time.
Brad
That is absolutely incredible!!! Very impressive job on that, and love the overlays on the back, gotta say that is the first time I have seen that!
Your grip looks so comfortable as well, like the hand just relaxes in there like a glove...Just Awesome!!
You have talent Sir!
Over&Under: I'm the lucky recipient of Brad's TG trade bow and you're right about the grip His are the best I've seen. My hand just relaxes into the bow. Awesome work as usual, Brad!
Thanks gentlemen!
That's is a very nice bow, looks like you should be open for business should you ever need an extra buck. Very cool.
AMAZING!
