Title: Question/help?
Post by: J-dog on February 05, 2007, 11:48:00 AM
Am going to order arrows, Gold tips for a schafer silvertip 64" 55#@28".

35/55s or 55/70s??

thinking bout getting one of 3 rivers test kits and see what spine works best, but I have a friend of mine who says the 35/55s are what works, course I think a bow is  like a rifle, they all like to eat something different.

anyway just looking yalls ideas,

Thanks,

Jason

I'd say you are on the bubble.  I have bows at similar weights.  Those just lighter like the 35/55s some shoot both and some like the 55/75s.  I shoot them all with the 100 gr brass insert up front with 145 gr points.  You may have to try em both.

Jason,

How much weight do you shoot up front?? I think you will be fine with the 55/75. If needed you can ad some weight up front to soften them up some. I shoot 250-280grns up front on mine.

OK I will complicate this, I shoot 150 up front. 130 STOS w/glue in/glue on insert. would a weight tube affect spine? I can see the concept of alot of weight up front "loosening" up the spine but what I am thinking about doing is usig a weight tube to get them up to about 11 gpi. How will a weight tube affect spine?

35-55s are 8.6 grains per inch, 55-70s are 9.3.

With with approximatly 27" weight tube at 8gpi and 150 up front I can get around 606.8 gpi/35-55s, and 626 gpi/55-70s, this is without feathers and nocks.

Main question is how does a weight tube affect spine?

Thanks guys, I am being picky.  :knothead:   I never bought into the weighted arrow and still don't like to stray too heavy up front. But I want to try and get around 11gpi. That should have some pass through power.

There is another thread here today about the difference between weight tubes versus brass inserts.  I like the brass inserts and the 55-70's fly like darts with 250 grains up front out of 57# @ 29".  The inserts will affect spine.  I haven't used the tubes myself, but I don't think they would.  So the decision of what to use for weight could very well have an impact on which spine shaft to buy.

I think you will be surprised at how well a heavily front weighted arrow will fly.

The 55/75 will work for ya and all ya need to do is put in a 100 grain brass insert and shoot your normal head. Ya will need to keep them a tad long like 29.5"s. With your 130 grain head and 43 grain aluminum adapter and the 100 grain insert, you will have 275 up front and that should fly well out of your ST. Shawn

I shoot a BW recurve, 62" 56@29". I shoot 35-55 29.5", 5" or 5.5" 3 feathers. I can shoot the regular insert or the 50gr or 100gr brass insert with 125gr, 145gr, or 175gr points ( I use 125 glue on broad head with 45gr long adapter) and they all fly good. Good luck and have fun. Alan

I use 3gr"weight tubes the way to go if your spline is ok now why wreak that just add weight tube and instant results no cutting glueing and if you dont like it pull them out  :archer:
