starting with this 2 x 6 1/8" x60" Shedua board, cut board 21" long, then cut it into two 3" x 21" pieces, going to use the bottom piece for this build. Robert, that looks curly!! Should be killer!
Good looking board Robert. I like shedua and that right there is going to look awesome.

Kenny, thats an opitical illusion, thats just where it was rough cut, here is a sanded pic. I need to cut in the accent glass stripe, after I build a jig tomorrow.. (http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt46/Robertfishes/2ndlongbowriserblock2.jpg)
Looks good- I'm also putting a piece of shedua to use in a riser- the outside looked pretty plain but once cut it has a lot of black stripes running through it- that one you have should really come to life.
I built a swing jig last nite. My first cut was a pine 2x4 to see if it would work, it cut it very nicely with no light showing thru, I cut the Shedua riser so perfect I barely had to sand it. I glued a black piece of glass in between Two white pieces of glass for looks and riser strength. will clean it up and cut to shape later today, will try to do a dry run late tonite and will do glue up weds nite..I plan on using this jig on a few more risers.

Looks dang good!!
thanks Kenny,I can't believe how easy it was and how little sanding it took(about 1 minute)to get the accents perfect. I'm hoping to glue up tomorrow night, gonna use some of that amberboo, smooth on and clear glass I got from you last week.
those accent lines look great!
Nice job. got any pictures of you jig you used to cut it out. Scott
The swing jig I built is similar to the one on Sam Harpers web site, poorfolksbows. I also found a pic of one that 4Nolz built, I made mine more like the 4Nolz jig. For the bottom I used a 24" x 26" x 11/16" piece of 9 lam plywood with melamine top(got from cabinet shop) and 3/4" plywood for the top (the part that moves). The clamps came from Harbour freight. You going to get it done in time Robert? Looks like a good start.
no, I was working on it tonite, did the dry run saw where I need to sand on the riser a little more,...gonna start back on this one next week, I have not been getting restful sleep and I'm just burned out. this build started out great but tonight I started feeling like I was under pressure to complete the build, this is my hobby not my job... I am taking Friday off and am gonna sleep in. I will shoot my hunting bow this weekend.
OK, feeling better..started working on this one again, cut some Santos rosewood veneers last night. Got bow glued up tonight, it's in the oven.. (http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt46/Robertfishes/2ndlongbowglueup.jpg)
Cool beans man! Looking forward to more.
had 30 minutes to work on bow today..got it out of form and ground off excess glue, peeled off the belly tape and took this picture, put new belly tape on, checked back glass for center.. it was perfect, marked with pencil and shaped limbs with belt sander..should have time monday night to finish tillering and glue on tips.. (http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt46/Robertfishes/2ndlongbowglueup1.jpg)
almost done, still have to finish sand and shape nocks..riser will be a medium tan/brown with some black streaks when finish is sprayed on weds night.. LOL , take your time!!
Kenny, it's tuesday.. worked on bow a couple of hours tonite, got nocks 90% shaped, glued 2 glass pieces and a wood lam on front of riser, still have to sand riser overlays. What a beauty!
Dang, I'm ahaed of myself!!
ok,got the nocks shaped and bow sanded..put an unwaxed cont loop string on it and shot about 60 times. I shot the same arrows as my 54lb recurve. I have not put the bow on a scale but I think it feels at least 51# @ 28". I think I may have time to spray finish it tonight, after supper
Looking good Robert. I really like the tips on this one.
Looking really good! I've built some straight handled longbows and three piece takedowns and am finishing a new form (Kenny M design) for d/r longbow; hopefully mine will come out as nice as yours!
got it sprayed, bow is hanging upside down..I flipped the pic 180 degrees..got a nice dry 12/4 Sapele board today, already have some pommelle and mottled sapele veneers cut out. Bow is now shootable..strung it up with a 452x string, installed homemade wool puffs, made a velcro rest and shot it a few times, I think it came out about 49# @ 28..
