Title: Refinishing Howatt
Post by: 1screagle on February 28, 2010, 07:19:00 PM
Looking for help in refinishing a Howatt Bandido. It has brown glass on limbs and riser looks to be Bubunga. There is a few deep scratches in the glass. What recommendations would you give for a great finish? Sanding? Filling scratches? Satin clear coat? Thank you.

Sanding could effect the tiller if overdone.  I have that same bow in a 62" 20#.  The kids that are big enough to shoot it love it.

I would sand very lightly and not with the intent of removing scratches in the limbs.  Could do more on the riser.  A clear coat is tougher and can be buffed back to satin if you don't like the shine.

Be carful with it.  There are fewer and fewer Howatts around.

Run a little super glue in the deep scratches before you sand the limbs. It will help fill them.,but becareful when you sand. After the glue drys I usaully scrape some of the glue off with a razor blade. I'm almost done redoing a Howatt Hi-Speed.
