I was wanting to see all the bows built or broke by everyone. I know everyone has an individual post, but if this was pinned to the top everyonecould see them for a quick reference. Just a thought for the mods.
Good Idea! One or two pics and a brief description.
This should be great! I'll start.
Here's my first takedown recurve that I finished a couple weeks ago. Curly maple riser and limbs, walnut accents and wedges, 62", 70# @ 28".

Thats exactly what I was thinkinig. short and to the point... EYE CANDY!
Here's the first I made a few weeks back. Actually killed a squirrel with it before I applied the finish. 58# @ 28", 60 inches. Gray actionwood w/green mtn. camo accents. Maple cores and black glass.

Built a spare set of limbs for it this week. Cross-grain gray actionwood w/boo cores. 60# @ 28" Here they were right out of the form.
Also killed a squirrel with these limbs before the finish was applied. Just sprayed them yesterday. I'll get some finished pics and add them later.
What a nice bow Landshark..I like that green actionwood strip in there.
Here's the twin that I built for a friend. It's a reverse of mine, green mtn. camo with gray accents. Black glass over red elm cores. 53# @ 28", 60 inches. I didn't get real good pics of it, but at least you get an idea of what it looks like.

this is one I broke a few weeks ago. I pulled it to far because my tillering tree was labeled wrong. She broke @30 in. It was tillered to 27.

same bow shooting before final weigh-in and finish.
Ok, - these are some beautiful bows posted so far!
Here is mine: This one is a hybrid longbow. It's 62" and draws 62# at 30". I used mountain camo dymondwoon for the riser, actionwood and actionboo in the cores, carbon on the back and black fiberglass on the belly and back. Black and white phoenelics on the tips. I stippled the grip and cut finger grooves also. I am praying I'll never have to post a "broken" pic!

this is one I got to final drawlast night. Osage selfbow 58in. NTN It hasn't been shot in all the way yet, just about fifty shots in the shop. I don't like rests on my bows, but this one has one for the fellow who is going to get it. It was a fun build with a hole in the limb. I am going to put a leather wrapped handle and some antler tips before it is done.right now it pulls 55@28.
(http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/ss13/dvshunter/CIMG0186.jpg) here is unbraced
this is almost full draw. It is tillered to 28 and I draw 26but you get the idea. :-)
I didn't exactly make this bow in 2010 but I put the finishing touches on it and just decided to take pics. 48"ntn 50#@28" drawn to around 31".

(http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/ss13/dvshunter/CIMG0188-1.jpg) this is the hole in the upper limb
Here are my 2009 bows.
45" sinew backed osage ponybow.
58" sinew backed osage recurve.
72" D bow
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v171/FrankV/MVC-113S.jpg)
Broke the following;
40" sinew backed osage. It shot great for close to 100 shots, then I nocked an unmarked arrow, drew it back a few inches to far and WHAM! 2010 bow.
Broke but no pictures was a 60" elm heartwood bow and a 64" hickory flatbow.
I finished this one a few weeks ago. It's 68" NTN, draws 48@28.
My first board bow. Hopefully my finace doesn't break this one. It's 60" ntn 25# @ 26". Bow is a red oak 4est build and the tips are african coco (tamboti). My next bow's lumber is on the bench as we speak.

Finally got some pics of these limbs in the sun. They're pretty dark, and it takes bright light to bring out the grain.

Can you post more pics/info about the asiatic bow at the bottom of page one? The 48" one with the full draw picture. It looks sweet and I would like to know how to make my own.
Those are some sweet looking bows. Great work!!1
I finally finished this bow for a good friend of mine. I haveposted pics of it earlier. After all adjustments, sanding and a finish it came in at 45@27. It was finished on my friends birthday. I just finished the leather grip over the custom fitted finger grooves.

nice bows. I have been out of the shop for a nit, but I'll get back soon with all this eye candy.
This is the only one I have tried to build so far. I Have not found any other good boards to try again yet. (http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss248/barebow13/th_IMG_0140.jpg) (http://s580.photobucket.com/albums/ss248/barebow13/?action=view¤t=IMG_0140.jpg)
Going from left to right.
Red oak board backed with linen. Got it to 45@28". Craked in bottom limb.
Red Oak board backed with black walnut. 22@ 28". Too light for hunting.
Red oak board backed with thrift store necktie. broke at 24" on tiller stick.
Red oak board no backing. Broke trying to put regular string on it.
Elm sapling no backing. Hinge got me.
Five trys and 4 failures and one partial success. On a positive note I've learned quite a bit so far.
Hey Guys,
I'm trying to finish up my first board bow (actually, my first bow of any kind...). I took it to an archery shop to get a draw weight reading that would be more accurate than my crappy bathroom scale. The guy there pulled the string back a couple of times and said he could feel the handle bending - and recommended that I wrap the handle out past the fades with some leather shoe laces.
For those of you who have broken bows, what do you think - good advice? How dangerous is it to shoot a suspect bow?
I'm hoping to get to 47# @ 28", right now I'm at 45# @23" and have not pulled it past 24".
Thanks for any input,
Wood
This is from my attempt to set a personal record in Norwegian Flightshooting. The bow is a 60# extreem Holmegaard, made of Beech. As u see, it broke on full draw..
Hi Moen, that looks quite impressive, almost like the bow exploded. Hope you didn't get hurt by parts of it flyin' around. Like the expression on your face ( uhh, holy sh.. ) LOL.

Andy
Holy sh ... is correct. lol. No injuries this time either:)
I love this thread both cause i get to see all the great bows made and cause it makes me feel better about my breaks. Can't wait to get home and post pics of the failures and successes this year. :goldtooth:
that is a great pic!

Well guys I have joined the "Built and Broke" clan. After great success on my first two bows, I got a little dumb on the band saw on my third and, no matter my efforts, couldn't rid myself of a hinge on the lower. Had her tillered pretty great with the long string, moved to short, tillered great again, even drew the 28" I wanted, but yesterday when showing my fiance the tiller, I heard a "CRACK!" and suddenly like 20#'s less draw. Limb cracked right at the hinge. Now I have an awesome firepoker cause I cut that limb off and i'll be damned to just toss wood!
Hope not to be back on the list for a while.
BTW tawmio your bows are bad ass!! Hope those didn't break.
built; 72" red oak longbow paper backed 49 1/2#@28"
65" red oak longbow burlap backed 33#@26"(my sisters) 60" red oak bend through handle-45#@26" 50#@28'
48" red oak kids pyramid bow 15#@25"
broke; 65 inch red oak longbow for my cousin. was in final tillering stage and blew while excercising limbs. was pulling 45#@25", wouldve pulled to 28 fine but was too high weight for her so i had to reduce and grain split.
Fish n chicks!
Thanks! -Nope they r all good fiberglass bows r pretty durable.
Do you have any pictures of your work?

Yes, but i'm a little embarassed to show it after yours! Those bows are what I hope to one day be making. But these are my 3 bows:
This was the first (25# @28 for my girl):
This was my second for my brother. i wanna say it pulled 48@28.
And this was my most recent attempt. It was primarily a grip idea I've been throwing around. It splinterd at a hinge on the lower limb due to some nefarious cutting on the band saw. 5 seconds of impatience cost me a decent bow. But taught me a valuable lesson on blades and time.
This was pulling 28#@28 before the crack. Perfect for my little boy.

built this one a bit ago. Iforgot to post it here. 45@26. (http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/ss13/dvshunter/CIMG0012.jpg)
62" 49# @ 28" Light walnut staining to bring out the grain. Leather handle & floppy rest.
