I want to build an all wood laminated bow. What would be the best glue to use in a project like this? I have Walnut, Red Oak, White Oak and Maple in 6' lengths. Some of these is what I plan to use. I have Titebond 111, will that work or should I use smooth-on or ????
Both will work, Smooth-On as an epoxy will fill any gaps or voids if your fades aren't paper thin.
Another option if you want a non-epoxy glue would be Urac 185.
Either will work. I've used TBIII and Urac.
TBIII is fine if your fit is tight. Urac is just a damn good glue and fills small gaps to boot.
Can anyone comment on the price differences between the Urac and TB or smooth-on?
TB is cheaper and local so that makes it even cheaper. d;^)
Thanks Guys!! Makes me feel more comfortable!
Urac is hands down the best wood to wood epoxy. You can find it at most woodcraft stores for about $12. you can order it from nelsons paint webbsite easily.
I've heard that Nelson Paint is out and won't have more for a while.
I checked Nelson's website, looks like they have plenty of Urac. I need to order some as I am down to about 1/4 pint.
I had a new pint but must have dropped it before I put it on the shelf in my extra full metal cabinet. Well, I had put a pin hole in the bottom apparent. Sure is hard to wash 1/2 of a pint of Urac off everything it dripped on 3 different shelves. Good thing it is water soluble, still took me the better part of a day to get things cleaned up.
The website says it won't be available to them until March. Click on an item and read the fine print. :(
You are right, I didn't click on an item.
Darn mice ate my Uraq catalyst! Guess the scent of powered walnut shells goes a long way this time of year!
Only thing I hate about Urac is the shelf life. I guess if I built as many as Eric, it would be no big deal. But 3 months, is short.
i keep mine in the back of the fridge, it have used some as old as 9 months with no problems.
for a wood composite: Urac.
