Title: Howard Hill bow blanks
Post by: chris K. on February 03, 2010, 08:49:00 PM
I was thinking about getting a bow blank and wanted to know how hard they were to finish and if you guys that have completed one if they could post some pictures of there bows. I also wanted to see if someone could post some pictures of a Howard Hill Crocodile, this is the blank that I was thinking about getting. The website only has two pictures and I was wanting to see some that were a little more up close.
Thanks,
Chris Kiefner

I did a HH bow blank a couple of years back. They are not hard to do in my opinion. You have to cut the shelf and finish sanding and finish.I did a HH Half Breed,I even sent Craig a goncalo alves chuck of wood to use for the riser.I added some buffalo horn tip overlays and used buffalo leather for the grip and rest.I finished it in spar urethene, steel wooled it and then hand rubbed it.It came out just beautiful with the yew limbs under clear glass and different then other HH with the goncalo alves riser. One of my favorite bows,it's a keeper for me.

Here is an Owl blank I finished a couple of years ago.  Cut in the shelf (location was marked), add overlays, and sand/finish!  Do it man!

the marks are all on the blank when you get it and its tillered real nice--only thing i noticed is they both were a little heavier[5-6#] then ordered--no biggie--excellent value -and you have a hand in it--GREAT BOWS!!do it!!!

Why not get the bow and post pics here for a "Finish-Along" BEFORE you begin?

I am sure youll get some great step by step advice and any fears of getting a great shootable bow will dissapate.....

I am with you. That sounds like a pretty good idea. I still would like to continue to see picture of the bows that they completed if that is alright.
